About Me

My name is Josh Hudson, and I am the author of this blog about the mesmerizing Waitomo Caves in New Zealand. My passion is traveling and telling the world about it, so that is how I decided to create a web page dedicated to the Waitomo Caves experience.

A Bit of a Background

I do not enjoy talking about myself in particular, so I will not waste your time with unnecessary chit-chat about my childhood and teenage years. What is important to know is that I come from the US, and I grew up on the ports and docks of the Atlantic.

That is how I got passionate about boats and sailing. When high school was over, I decided to take a leap year before college to figure out what I wanted to do further in life.

Since I needed money and knew quite a bit about boats, I just went to the local harbor and started doing some repair work on small sailing vessels. One day, I got commissioned to work on the boat of a guy from New Zealand who had been sailing the seas across the world as a way to pass the time. He was retired, and his wife had died, so there was not much left for him to do other than explore the world and enjoy his golden years.

Captain Jack (Not Sparrow)

The guy’s name was Jack, and he was a very interesting, well-educated man. We instantly built rapport and became friends. Jack had a lot of helpful advice for a young man like me, who was still perplexed about his place in the world.

As the days passed and we conversed, Jack got a terrific idea. In a few weeks, he was going to sail back to New Zealand, and it occurred to him that having a helping hand on the boat would be of great value. After all, he was an old man, who did sometimes have difficulty handling all the tasks on a sailing boat.

To be honest, I did not think twice about setting off on a voyage across half of the world. I quickly agreed and, in a few weeks, we embarked on our way to New Zealand.

Setting in Waikato

Along the way, we visited many exciting places, encountered amazing people, and had plenty of adventures. When we finally arrived in New Zealand, Jack helped me settle in the Waikato Region on North Island, which is where the Waitomo Caves are located.

I built a home here, and this is my permanent residence. In the meantime, I travel as much as possible. I have several blogs dedicated to my adventures as an intentional vagabond across the world. However, I hold this blog about the Waitomo Caves especially dear to my heart, as it depicts an overwhelmingly beautiful place located β€œin my backyard.”

Have fun reading!

My best,

Josh
